Garmin has introduced something a little different this time — a fitness tracker with no screen at all, called the CIRQA Smart Band. And here’s the detail worth pausing on — unlike several similar devices already in the market, this one doesn’t ask you to pay a subscription just to unlock its advanced fitness and wellness features.
Which raises a fair question — when so many companies have made “pay monthly to access your own health data” the norm, why is it worth noticing when one company simply… doesn’t?
Battery Life: The Real Selling Point
Garmin claims the CIRQA can run up to 10 days on a single charge — and that’s with 24/7 health monitoring switched on the whole time. No screen to light up, of course, helps make that possible. But it’s still a number worth watching once real-world reviews start coming in, since battery claims and battery reality don’t always agree.
Built to Be Worn, Not Just Looked At
The band comes with a fiber-reinforced polymer case and a fabric strap, and it can be worn either on the wrist or the arm — giving people a choice in how they use it. The module itself is light, just 14.8 grams, and it carries a 5ATM water-resistance rating, meaning it can handle everyday water exposure without much worry.
What It Actually Tracks
This is where the CIRQA tries to earn its price. It supports around 80 activities — running, walking, swimming, and more — and there’s a side button on the module that can be assigned to start any activity of your choosing.
Beyond activity tracking, the band also monitors sleep, VO2 max, HRV Status, Pulse Oxygen, stress levels, and skin temperature. There’s Body Battery energy monitoring as well, and all of this data is accessible through the Garmin Connect app.
That’s a fairly long list of metrics for a device with no screen — which brings up another question. If a band this “basic” in appearance can track this much, how much of a fitness tracker’s price these days is really about the screen, and how much is about everything working quietly behind it?
